Week 5 Picks

article by Thomas Danielson, senior writer and LSU homer, secfootballpodcast.com

#3 Alabama (4-0) (1-0) at Kentucky (2-1) (0-1)

<--Tom's Pick
ROOOOOLLLL TIDE! I like Alabama in this one, who doesn't? Last year the Wildcats played it close and Bama escaped at home with a 17-14 win. This year it's in the Wildcats' backyard. Can they pull the upset, or put another Heisman candidate in the hospital? That's right, there are Heisman whispers all over about McElroy. By the end of this weekend those whispers will be shouts from a megaphone. Roll Tide. Bama 38-10. PatD's pick: Bama 31-14

#4 LSU (4-0) (2-0) at #10 Georgia (3-1) (2-0)
<-- Tom's Pick
This visitors are ranked higher and undefeated. The home team has won 3 in a row and are favored to win. Both teams have been playing questionable football at times. This one is hard to pick. LSU is dominant up front and has more veterans on defense. Georgia has a much better offense and have been putting up some pretty big numbers. Can I really go against the Tigers? No. Maybe next week. Tigers pull the upset by a field goal. PatD's pick: UGA 27-24

#11 Auburn (4-0) (1-0) at Tennessee (2-2) (0-1)
<-- Tom's Pick
I flat out love this Tiger team from the Plains. The Gus-Gus offense looks unstoppable. 37, 49, 41, and 54 are what Auburn has been putting up. The Vols legendary D-coordinator and Eric Berry might be able to slow down the visiting teams' offense, but their own offense is still terrible. Until I see light at the end of the tunnel for Crompton, they keep losing against good teams. Auburn wins on the road and makes a statement in the SEC West! PatD's pick: AU 24-20

Arkansas (1-2) (0-2) vs Texas A&M (3-0) (0-0)
<-- Tom's Pick
Looking at these records you would think the Aggies have the edge. Not the case. The Hogs have played two ranked conf. opponents in UGA and Bama and lost. They can bounce back huge with a win at home against one of their old rivals. The home team will prevail, and notch another win for the SEC against a BCS team. The Razorbacks win it something like 35-31. PatD's pick: Ark 45-42

Mississippi State (2-2) (1-2) vs (AP)#25 Georgia Tech (3-1) (2-1)
<--Tom's pick
Hmmm. Mississippi State. They were impressive this past weekend, outgaining and outfirst-downing LSU. They lost this match-up badly 38-7 a year ago in Atlanta. It's time for revenge! Dan Mullen truly looks to be turning things around in Starkville. This will turn the season up or down for Miss St. This will be a chance for the Bulldogs to knock a team out of the AP's top 25, and get some more attention on ESPN for the 2nd week in a row. Go Dogs! 28-25. PatD's pick: GA Tech 25-21

#21 Ole Miss (2-1) (0-1) at Vanderbilt (2-2) (0-2)
<-- Tom's Pick
The Rebels dropped 17 spots in the AP poll from last week, and South Carolina didn't get enough votes to make it in the AP's top 25. That's how unimpressed voters are with Ole Miss. I feel the same. They need to go out and beat this Vandy team handily. Vandy is 0-2, with losses to MSU and LSU, surely that streak will continue against the Rebs (who they upset last year on the road). Please make a statement Rebels. Ole Miss 42-20. PatD's pick: UM 27-17
